1986 Mustang Race Car

NASA AMERICAN IRON-AIX

1986 FORD MUSTANG 347 CI. AFR 205 Aluminum heads. DYNO at 497HP at 7200rpm’s at fly wheel. With new TKO Tremec Road Race 5 speed transmission.

The car was built for open track events and NASA American Iron-AIX. It was a 1986 4 cylinder mustang, it was disassembled and the complete chassis was welded together in place of the factory spot welds, sub frames / roll cage were added and completed as below.

Features: Full roll cage with NASCAR type door bars, roll cage was designed for safety. It has the power cut off switch mounted were the driver and safety crew can get to it at any time. It has dual seats with a new Kirkey seat on {driver’s side} installed along with new safety seat belts that meet current FIA rules (until 2011). It has the dash removed and a custom race dash installed with the removable steering wheel. All gages including tach, oil pressure, water temp, oil temp {not connected} are located in front of driver so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road course. It has the CRANE ING-Box, dual rear batteries mounted in an aluminum battery box; it also has a fire wall installed between fuel cell and interior compartment. It has a 2.5” cowl hood { retains factory hood latch}. Extremely Modified front fenders for additional track width clearance. Chrome 17X9 Cobra R wheels with TOYO 275/40/ZR17 Race tires, which has one event on them. A Cobra 2003R brake booster conversion was installed and new master cylinder. The brakes are 13 inch Alcon Saleen Rotors and Alcon Saleen 4 piston calipers (Just Rebuilt by Randall Racing on the front and SVO 11.75 rear brake conversion. I just installed new Saleen rotors ($475.00 each) and installed new Carbotech pads front and rear. The front suspension has custom adjustable front control arms with Heim Joint rod ends.{ fully adjustable width caster/ camber} it has the 11/8 inch front sway bar with adjustable heim joints linkage to front control arms. It has tubular front K-member with optimized road race control arm location. BBK Caster/ Camber Strut plates, front coil over spring conversion, Koni yellow Double adjustable front Struts and rear Koni adjustable shocks, plus Road race custom torque arm suspension and a Saleen rear-end axle girdle. Rear springs in stock location with top mounted adjustable screw jacks. It also has Road race rear lower control arms with rear adjustable heim joints. BBK custom rear pan hard bar. The rear end has the Ford racing Limited Slip 4.11 gear.

Transmission: is a New TKO TREMEC Road Race 600R 5 speed with a New $630.00 triple Disc-Ultra light clutch from Ram clutches and a new $390.00 blow proof bell housing from Quick time.

Engine: New 5.0 roller block, STD bore with 12.7 compressions; it has been Dyno at 497hp at the fly wheel. Engine has main stud girdle, Eagle forged steel 4340 3.400 Crank, Eagle Racing H-Beam 4340 rods 5.4”, JE/SRP Std bore dome 12.7 Forge Pistons, 600+ lift Hydraulic Roller cam, Dual true roller FORD Racing timing chain, AFR 205 CNC Ported Heads, Victor Jr intake, 1.7 Roller rockers, Custom chrom-molly pushrods, rocker arm stud girdle, New MSD Distributor, Demon 750 Carb, BBK 1 ¾ Full Length headers, Mallory Electric HV Fuel pump/ Filter with ½ fuel line, Two exhaust systems one custom Oval 3 ½ inch Exhaust with H crossover and NASCAR style side exhaust, and a 3 inch system with mufflers that are turn down before the rear end to meet noise restrictions at some race tracks like Roebling road and Barber Motorsport Park. It has the serpentine belt system for durability.

The engine was built by Honeycutt Machine shop Lexington SC. And was dyno by them and I have the dyno sheets available.

Bore: STD 4.030, Stroke Int / Ext-bal 3.4”, CID: 347, Forged H-bead rod 5.4”, Comp Height 1.090, Piston- brand Type_ G JE/SRP forged, piston Type/ Dome Vol FT-6.6cc

This is a very fast/ safe race car, the engine and transmission and brakes has 3 NASA-AIX races, two first and one second in 2007 and I finished second overall in the southeast region. It is fresh and ready to race. I have sorted the car out since my first race in 2006, now with a new engine, transmission, brakes and tires, plus rebuilding lower control arms the car is ready for a Great Year. I have changed the front end with new ground affects and saleen side skirts and added the rear valance. The front spoiler and rear spoiler was added for more down force and the front was repainted and a new windshield was installed. I track test all race cars that I sell.
