1966 Ford Mustang Convertible 289 A/T This is a very rare find. Until 11/05/2004, this convertible belonged to the original owner. She bought this Mustang in 1/5/1966 from Heintzelman’s Ford Inc. Orlando, Florida. It was in great shape with the original paint and unrestored condition. I have invoices from 1993 showing the miles to be 22,993; each year after that, she drove an average 900 miles a year. When she sold the car to the second owner, it had 32,996 miles; it now has 35,166. I have the invoices from 1993 to 2003 showing the mileage each time she had the car serviced. I also have the restoration invoices reflecting when the restoration was completed. All of the original papers/ invoices go with the car, even the original buyer’s invoice from the Ford Dealer she bought it from. Body: the body is in great shape. The under carriage has been steam cleaned which leaves it with the original finish. The floor pans were lightly sprayed with a protected coating from the factory. While going over the restoration invoices, I see that the rear quarters had a little rust which were repaired. From what I can see it must have been pin holes because there were no replacement panels. The body is very straight and doors align up great. The restoration was a frame on, and it was done correctly. The engine was pulled and engine bay was cleaned and detailed; the engine was cleaned and all components were cleaned and detailed to show quality. Everything was very easy to restore due to the original condition of the Mustang. It still has the original Ford bumpers on the car; no, they are not new, but they are in very good condition. Just a very, very rare Mustang. Suspension: the Mustang has the original tie rods with the correct tie rod boots. The idler arm bushing was replaced but other than that, the suspension is original. When I did restorations for show cars, it was great to do a car that had original parts on it that were still in great condition to reuse. It saved a lot of time and money on the restoration. With the miles on this car and the condition of the original parts, I believe it to be a true 35K mile Mustang. It has manual brakes and no power steering or air-conditioning. The tires are radial white walls and it has spinner 1966 hub caps. I have a picture of the Mustang with dual redlines and style steel wheels, which are available at additional cost. Interior: The interior has had new front seat covers and carpet. The pony door panels are original as are the kick panels, scuff plates, quarter trim, dash pad, and sun-visors. The metal parts of the doors were repainted and new weather stripping was installed, but the painted part of the dash and steering column are original and in great condition. Just very rare! The radio was replaced with a custom AM-FM cassette player that fits the dash. The woodgain instrument cluster was replaced on 4/17/2006. This is mostly original condition and it does not need anything. The console is just great and the woodgain is perfect. The interior trim color code is 68 which is Ivy Gold & White deluxe and the exterior color code is A which is Black. In the 40 years that I have been around Mustangs, I only remember one other Mustang with this color code and trim code which was a K code fastback that I owned 20 years ago. This is a very good Mustang to show or drive. The two owners of this Mustang took very good care of it. It needs to go to a person that will do the same. I will not sell it to any one that wants to modify it or hot rod. It is very rare to come across a Mustang like this and it needs to be taken care of.
