1965 Ford Mustang T-5
Description: This is a MCA restored T-5 export fastback mustang.
The mustang was one of nineteen known to be made for export to Germany and there was a German company that had the rights to the name Mustang so Ford used the project name T-5. Very few of these cars were produced and very few remain today.
In constructing these cars Ford also made some engineering changes for greater strength including an angle iron support under the shock tower braces at the firewall for export brace and this has the original. A heavy duty upper shock mounts with the welded on washers on top of the shock towers. Interestingly these same two manufacturing changes were also incorporated into the 1965 Shelby GT 350.
Exterior: The paint is M code Wimbledon white very straight and just better than new. The body has all of the original panels never had any damage or rust. The doors, fenders, hood and trunk panels fit better than new. When the restoration was done time did not count. The exterior chrome and all weather stripping were replaced even down to the vent widow’s chrome frame. This car was professionally restored from the ground up by a restoration shop for the owner of that shop.
Interior: The interior is new including the dash pad and dash bezel. The steering wheel center is the correct T-5 horn ring and I do have the original and it goes with the car. I also have the original T-5 locking gas cap. It has a reproduction T-5 gas cap on it now. The seat covers, carpet door panels are new. The radio is an AM/FM cassette that fits the dash like factory. This interior is new!
Suspension: Suspension was done with many new old stock parts. The lower control arms are ford new. Upper ball joints are new along with the shaft kits. The spring seats also have been replaced and this is just a short list of the parts that have been replaced. Shocks, all flex and steel brake lines and gas lines. Sway bar bushings, Disc brakes are new with rotors and calipers and bearings, rear brakes also have been rebuilt with new wheel cylinders and shoes. Even the u-joints have been done. This car needs nothing!
Engine: This is an A code 289 4 barrel that has been rebuilt. The motor was balance and bore 30 over and a Shelby type cam was installed. It has factory tri-y headers and the original carb. And it was rebuilt by Pony Carb’s and detail for show. It has many N.O.S. parts like the alternator, radiator Hoses, antenna, T-5 fender badges. Water pump, motor mounts, transmission lines, radiator, sending units and it even has the replacement HI-PO balancer. Every thing is new or rebuilt.
Undercarriage: Gas tank is Ford along with the gas tank sending unit. This is a restored under carriage every nut and bolt was done. The detail has been done to MCA rules but it has been driven about 5K miles. The transmission was rebuilt when the motor was done. The body has ALL of the original sheet metal. The rear end is a 3:00 traction lock. Even the head lights are Ford script. The new correct 65 style steel wheels and Coker red line radials were just installed.
When the restoration was done the original color was changed from blue exterior and blue interior to the white with red interior. Also the transmission was changed from a four speed to a C-4 automatic.
The data plate that’s on the car now: body 63A, color-M, trim 25, date24S, Axle-A trans-6 Dso-95 the correct data plate goes with car. I also have the correct 200 km/h speedometer.
The last fastback that I had in this condition Ford motor company bought it and done the 5.0 Cammer show car for SEMA.
Note: Car comes with Coker redline tires and 65 style steel wheels. For additional $500.00 you can upgrade the tires to BF Goodrich tires and Torque Trust 2 wheels. Both options can be seen on the additional picture page.
